Women’s Health
Dedicated Women's Health Care at Bopple Surgery
From adolescence through to menopause and beyond, Bopple Surgery in Tiaro, Queensland provides dedicated women's health services delivered by experienced, compassionate GPs. Whether you are managing a reproductive health concern, navigating a life transition, or simply due for a routine check-up, our team is here to support you with evidence-based, person-centred care tailored to your individual circumstances.
We understand that women's health encompasses far more than reproductive wellbeing. Our GPs take time to listen, to understand your history, and to support your physical and mental health across every stage of life, in a safe, respectful and private environment.
Preventive Health Checks & Screening
Preventive care is the cornerstone of long-term health. Regular health checks allow our GPs to identify concerns early, monitor changes over time, and support you in making informed decisions about your health.
At Bopple Surgery, our GPs can assist with:
- Cervical screening (HPV test) — recommended every 5 years for eligible women aged 25–74 who have ever been sexually active, in line with the National Cervical Screening Program
- Breast health assessment — clinical discussion and referral for mammogram screening through BreastScreen Queensland, where appropriate
- Cardiovascular risk assessment — including blood pressure, cholesterol, and lifestyle review
- Bone density and osteoporosis risk discussions — particularly relevant for women approaching or post-menopause
- Diabetes screening — including assessment of risk factors and interpretation of results
- Skin checks — see our dedicated Skin Checks and Skin Cancer Treatment page for further detail
Your GP will advise on the frequency and type of screening appropriate for your individual risk profile, age, and personal history.

Reproductive & Sexual Health
Our GPs provide confidential, non-judgemental care across all areas of reproductive and sexual health. We understand these conversations can feel sensitive, and we are committed to creating a space where you feel comfortable raising any concern.
Services include:
- Contraception advice and management — including the combined pill, progestogen-only pill, IUD (hormonal and copper), contraceptive implant, and other options; your GP will discuss the benefits, risks, and suitability of each method based on your individual circumstances
- STI screening and discussion — including testing pathways and treatment where indicated
- Menstrual health assessment — for irregular, heavy, prolonged, or painful periods; your GP will take a detailed history and arrange relevant investigations as clinically indicated
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) — assessment of symptoms, discussion of diagnostic criteria, and management options including lifestyle, medications, and referral where appropriate
- Endometriosis — symptom assessment, pain management discussions, and referral to gynaecology where clinically indicated
- Vulvovaginal concerns — including recurrent thrush, bacterial vaginosis, and other conditions
Pregnancy-Related Care
While Bopple Surgery is a general practice rather than a maternity unit, our GPs play an important role in early pregnancy support and in coordinating your care with appropriate specialist and maternity services.
Our GPs can assist with:
- Confirmation of pregnancy and initial clinical assessment
- Discussion of your pregnancy options in a confidential, supportive environment
- Referral for antenatal care and specialist obstetric services, including shared care arrangements where available
- Management of early pregnancy concerns — such as nausea, fatigue, and minor complications — in consultation with your obstetric team
- Postnatal check-ups for mother and baby
- Assessment and support for postnatal mental health concerns, including postnatal depression and anxiety
If you are pregnant and have an urgent concern, please contact your maternity care provider or call 000 in an emergency.
Menopause & Perimenopause
Menopause is a natural life transition, but it can bring a range of physical and emotional changes that significantly affect daily life. Our GPs provide supportive, evidence-informed care for women in perimenopause and menopause, helping you understand your options and make informed decisions about your health.
We can assist with:
- Symptom assessment and management — including hot flushes, night sweats, sleep disturbance, mood changes, vaginal dryness, and joint discomfort
- Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) — discussion of the potential benefits, risks, and individual suitability of hormone therapy; your GP will review your personal and family medical history before recommending any treatment
- Non-hormonal management options — including lifestyle modifications and other evidence-based approaches where MHT is not suitable or preferred
- Bone and cardiovascular health review — as the risk of osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease changes at menopause, your GP can discuss appropriate preventive measures
- Referral to gynaecology or menopause specialists — where your needs extend beyond what can be managed in general practice
Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing
Women experience unique mental health pressures at different life stages, including during the perinatal period, at perimenopause, and in the context of reproductive health challenges. At Bopple Surgery, our GPs provide accessible, non-judgemental mental health support as part of holistic women's healthcare.
We can assist with:
- Assessment of anxiety, depression, and related conditions — including perinatal anxiety and depression, and menopause-related mood changes
- Mental Health Treatment Plans (MHTP) — where eligible, these may entitle you to Medicare-subsidised sessions with a psychologist or other allied mental health professional; your GP will assess your eligibility based on your individual clinical circumstances and current Medicare guidelines
- Referral to psychologists, counsellors, and support services — including local and telehealth options where available
- Support for women experiencing domestic or family violence — our GPs follow Queensland Health best-practice guidelines and can assist with safety planning, referral, and documentation as needed

- Type 2 diabetes — including monitoring, medication review, and lifestyle support
- Thyroid disorders — hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism assessment and ongoing management
- Autoimmune conditions — including rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, in coordination with specialist care
- Hypertension and cardiovascular disease — with attention to sex-specific risk factors
- Iron deficiency anaemia — assessment, investigation, and management including referral for iron infusions where appropriate
See our dedicated Chronic Disease Management page for further detail on care plans and Medicare-funded services available to eligible patients.
Adolescent Women's Health
The teenage years bring a distinct set of health needs. Our GPs provide a confidential, respectful space for young women to discuss their health, whether that involves period concerns, contraception, skin health, mental health, or other issues they may find difficult to raise.
Adolescents have a right to confidential healthcare once assessed as having the capacity to consent to their own treatment, consistent with Queensland law. Our GPs handle adolescent consultations with sensitivity and respect for the young person's privacy.
Referral & Coordinated Care
When your health needs extend beyond what can be managed within general practice, Bopple Surgery GPs coordinate timely referral to appropriate services. For women's health, this may include:
- Gynaecologists — for complex reproductive or pelvic health concerns
- Obstetricians — for pregnancy and birth care
- Breast surgeons or breast clinics — where indicated following assessment
- Dermatologists — for skin concerns
- Endocrinologists — for hormonal and metabolic conditions
- Psychologists and allied health professionals — for mental health and wellbeing support
- Oncologists — where cancer screening results require further investigation
We aim to make the referral process as straightforward as possible, providing clear documentation and supporting access to services locally or within the Fraser Coast and Wide Bay region wherever possible.
A Safe & Supportive Environment
We understand that discussing women's health concerns, particularly those involving reproductive health, mental health, or domestic circumstances, requires a high level of trust. Our practice team is committed to ensuring every patient feels safe, heard, and respected from the moment they arrive.
If you would like to see a female GP, please let our reception team know when booking, and we will do our best to accommodate your preference based on current availability. You are also welcome to bring a support person to your appointment if that would help you feel more comfortable.
