Family Medicine in Tiaro QLD

At Bopple Surgery, our family medicine services are built around one principle, knowing you and your family well enough to provide care that is genuinely personalised. Our experienced general practitioners support patients of all ages across Tiaro, Maryborough, Gympie, Hervey Bay and the wider Fraser Coast region, delivering consistent, coordinated healthcare you can rely on.

Family medicine at Bopple Surgery is not just about treating illness. It is about understanding your full health picture over time and helping you maintain your best possible health at every stage of life.

Continuity of Care, Your Family, One Trusted Practice

One of the most valuable things a GP can offer is continuity. When your doctor knows your history, your family context and your health trends over time, they are better placed to identify what has changed, catch concerns early and make decisions that are genuinely right for you.

At Bopple Surgery, we encourage patients to register with a preferred GP and to build an ongoing relationship with our practice through MyMedicare, the Australian Government's voluntary patient registration scheme. Registering is free, simple and takes only a few minutes through your Medicare Online Account or the Express Plus Medicare app. Our reception team can also assist you directly at your next visit.

Consistent, ongoing GP care means fewer gaps, better coordination and a healthcare experience that is built around you, not just your immediate concern.

Routine Health Assessments and Preventive Care

Prevention is at the heart of good general practice. Our GPs work with you to identify and manage risk factors before they develop into more serious health concerns. Routine health assessments at Bopple Surgery include:

  • Blood pressure, cholesterol and cardiovascular risk assessment
  • Diabetes risk assessment and management support
  • Cancer screenings — bowel, cervical, breast and skin
  • Healthy weight and lifestyle guidance
  • Smoking cessation support
  • Age-appropriate health checks for adults, seniors and children
  • Immunisations across all life stages, including flu and shingles vaccinations

Regular check-ups give you and your GP the opportunity to review what is working, address what has changed and plan ahead for your long-term wellbeing.

Management of Acute Illness and Injury

When you or a family member is unwell or injured, Bopple Surgery GPs are available Monday to Friday to provide prompt, thorough assessment and management. We see a wide range of acute presentations, including:

  • Respiratory infections, colds and flu-like illness
  • Ear, throat and sinus infections
  • Fever assessment and management
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Skin infections, rashes and allergic reactions
  • Gastrointestinal complaints
  • Minor trauma — cuts, sprains, minor burns and abrasions
  • Eye and ear complaints

We aim to see urgent concerns on the same day where possible. Please call our reception team on (07) 4193 9407 to discuss availability.

Chronic Disease Management

For patients living with ongoing health conditions, consistent and coordinated GP care is essential. Our GPs develop personalised management plans for a range of chronic conditions, including:

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • High blood pressure and cardiovascular disease
  • Osteoporosis and musculoskeletal conditions
  • Thyroid conditions
  • Mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety

Patients with complex or multiple chronic conditions may be eligible for a GP Management Plan (GPMP) and Team Care Arrangement (TCA), which coordinate care across your GP and relevant allied health providers. Speak with your GP to find out whether a care plan may be appropriate for your situation.

Women's and Men's Health

Our GPs provide dedicated health services for both women and men, recognising that different life stages bring different health priorities.

For women, this includes cervical screening, contraception advice, pregnancy care, menopause management and general preventive care. For men, our GPs address cardiovascular risk, prostate health, mental health and overall preventive wellbeing — areas where men are statistically less likely to seek care, but where early intervention makes a meaningful difference.

Both women's and men's health services are available as part of routine consultations or as dedicated appointments. Speak with our reception team when booking if you would like to discuss your needs in advance.

Mental Health Support

Our GPs understand that mental health is inseparable from physical health. Whether you are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, or something harder to name, we encourage you to speak with your GP. Mental health services available through Bopple Surgery include:

  • Mental health assessment and care planning
  • Mental Health Treatment Plans and referrals to psychologists and allied health providers
  • Ongoing monitoring and medication management where appropriate
  • Supportive, non-judgmental consultations in a private setting

You do not need to have a specific diagnosis to speak with your GP about how you are feeling. Our team is here to help.

Children's Health Within Family Medicine

Our GPs provide comprehensive care for children of all ages as part of our family medicine services, from newborn checks and childhood immunisations to developmental assessments and adolescent health. Families are welcome to bring children of any age to our practice, and we work to make every visit as calm and positive as possible.

For a full overview of our dedicated children's health services, visit our Children's Health page.

Referral and Coordinated Care

When your health needs extend beyond what can be managed in a general practice setting, our GPs coordinate timely referral to appropriate specialist and allied health services. We provide clear documentation and, where possible, support access to services locally or within the Fraser Coast region.

Referral pathways include specialists across cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, orthopaedics and gynaecology, as well as allied health providers including physiotherapists, psychologists, dietitians and occupational therapists.

A Family-Centred Approach at Bopple Surgery

We know that accessing healthcare for your family takes time, trust and a practice that genuinely listens. At Bopple Surgery, our team works to ensure every patient, regardless of age or health complexity, feels heard, respected and well cared for.

We encourage families to contact our reception team if they have specific needs or preferences when booking. Whether it is requesting a longer appointment, seeing a preferred GP, or simply letting us know that a young child is anxious about visits, we will do our best to accommodate you.
