Flu Vaccination
Flu Vaccination in Tiaro, QLD
At Bopple Surgery, we provide annual influenza vaccinations for patients of all ages as part of our preventive health services. Vaccines are administered by our experienced general practitioners in a safe, clinical environment, in line with current Australian immunisation guidelines and the annual recommendations of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI).
Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory illness that can cause significant illness, hospitalisation and serious complications, particularly in young children, older adults and those with certain underlying health conditions. Annual vaccination is one of the most practical steps you can take to help protect yourself and those around you each flu season.
Why Annual Vaccination Matters
The influenza virus changes from year to year. Vaccines are updated annually to match the strains expected to circulate each season, which is why a new vaccination is recommended each year, even if you received one the previous year.
Immunity from a prior flu vaccine also wanes over time, making annual re-vaccination important for maintaining adequate protection throughout the season. Your GP at Bopple Surgery can advise on the best time to receive your vaccination, typically from April onwards ahead of the winter flu season.
Who Should Consider a Flu Vaccination?
Annual influenza vaccination is recommended or available for a wide range of patients. Under current Australian guidelines, the following groups are particularly encouraged to vaccinate:
- Adults aged 65 years and over
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
- Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy
- Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
- People aged 6 months and over with certain medical conditions that increase the risk of serious complications from influenza, including heart disease, chronic respiratory conditions, diabetes, kidney disease and significant immunocompromise
Influenza vaccination is available for all patients aged 6 months and over. Speak with your GP to discuss whether vaccination is appropriate for your individual circumstances.

- GP assessment of your individual health status and vaccine suitability prior to administration

Flu Vaccination and COVID-19
Co-administration of influenza and COVID-19 vaccines is clinically supported by ATAGI for eligible patients aged 12 and over. If you are due for both vaccines, speak with your GP at your appointment to confirm whether receiving them together is appropriate for your situation.
Protecting Those Around You
Vaccination not only helps protect the person who receives it, it also reduces the risk of passing influenza on to those who may be more vulnerable, including newborns too young to be vaccinated, elderly family members and individuals with compromised immune systems.
Discussing flu vaccination as a household is encouraged, particularly in families with young children, older adults or members with chronic health conditions
