What Is WorkCover Queensland?
WorkCover Queensland is the state government's workers' compensation scheme, designed to ensure that employees who sustain a work-related injury or illness receive:
- Appropriate and timely medical treatment
- Rehabilitation support to assist their recovery
- Financial compensation for lost wages during their recovery period
- A structured, medically supervised Return-to-Work plan
WorkCover applies to most Queensland employees covered under a standard employment arrangement. Your employer is required to hold workers' compensation insurance, which funds your claim once it is accepted by WorkCover Queensland or a self-insurer.
Independent contractors and some other workers may be covered under separate arrangements. Speak with your GP or WorkCover Queensland directly for advice specific to your employment situation.
WorkCover Medical Services at Bopple Surgery
Our GPs provide the full range of clinical services required throughout a WorkCover claim, from initial injury assessment through to final clearance and return to full duties.
- Initial Workplace Injury Assessment
When you present with a workplace injury or illness, our GPs will conduct a thorough clinical assessment, including:
- A detailed history of the injury, how it occurred and your job role
- Physical examination appropriate to the nature of the injury
- Diagnosis and development of an initial treatment plan
- Completion of the initial Work Capacity Certificate
- Referral for diagnostic investigations such as X-ray, ultrasound or blood tests where clinically indicated
- Referral to allied health professionals, specialists or rehabilitation services as required
- Work Capacity Certificates
Work Capacity Certificates are a critical part of the WorkCover process. They communicate your clinical status, your capacity for work and any restrictions or modifications required, to your employer, insurer and case manager.
Our GPs complete Work Capacity Certificates accurately and promptly at each appointment, clearly documenting:
- Your current diagnosis
- Your capacity for work, full duties, modified duties or no duties
- Any restrictions on tasks, hours or physical demands
- Estimated timeframe for review or return to full duties
- Return-to-Work Planning
Returning to work is an important part of the recovery process. Our GPs work collaboratively with you, your employer and your insurer to develop a Return-to-Work plan that is:
- Grounded in your current clinical capacity
- Graduated in its approach, starting with modified or reduced duties where appropriate
- Regularly reviewed and adjusted as your recovery progresses
- Consistent with any restrictions advised by treating specialists or allied health professionals
We understand that returning to work too quickly can set back recovery, and that prolonged absence can also have negative health and wellbeing consequences. Our approach is to find the medically appropriate balance for each individual patient.
